answer B: your comment appears unrelated. When you say 'other apps' - I find it
hard to believe that calc is affecting other apps on your desktop =) if so,

Confirming that I see this on my Linux Mint 17.1 master builds at first startup
of the start center. After opening any blank document, the icons get switched
to the default icon set (Tango).

Samuel: try opening libreoffice when it directly loads into the start center,

In my case only the sidebar is affected, rest of LibreOffice ok.
If I start first writer and close the "inside writer" window to go back to the
LibreOffice start screen the icons are fine.
