It appears that the main issue is that this has been called an Enhancement
rather than what it really is, which is a poorly conceived and designed

It should honor the entry "A:A" as meaning "apply this conditional formatting
to the entire column" and stop auto-converting it to "A1:A1048576", which then

I noticed that LibreOffice 5.0.1 easily destroys the set range for conditional
formatting.
