FYI: In the master branch (which will become LIbreOffice 6.1) the support for
the "Excel 2003 XML" format has been overhauled greatly. See

On Mac OS 10.11.6 (El Capitan) with LO 5.2.2.2 + brand new LO profile and brand
new empty ods file, I don't reproduce the crash.

@julien could you retry to repro? this is fairly easy. Imo no test file needed.
Open calc in latst master on macOS and save as 2003 xml.
