The Japanese text seems to have lost its kerning.
(I do not know if it is supposed to be kerned, though.)
I do not see any code changes that could cause that, so maybe a change in
the installed Japanese fonts did it?

did you also check the 2.15.17 regtests? there were only 10
comits between .17 and .18, so I would expect a lot more problems
bewteen .16 and .17.
If you were checking .16 to .18 in one go, then that's fine
