Are you sure that your file is called test.ly and not test.ly.txt,
it can be hard to convince notepad not to add the extra extension.
If the file extension really is .ly, then the default action when
you double click on the file should be to run lilypond and open the
result in Acrobat.

Since last weekend I started on LilyPond 2.4. I'm a newbie to LilyPond,
so this might just be a question of reading the fine manual.
I have a lyric that goes as follows:

When compiling an incorrect .ly file with C-c C-l I get the following
messages:
