As you noted, the \postcript markup command wasn't available in
version 2.2, but you could use
\markup{ \\embeddedps{...} } as a replacement for
\markup{ \postscript #... }

I tried your suggestion, but I think I'm screwing up the syntax

I use it most for engraving from ancient fac simile, or old scores (80%)

You didn't manage to convert the first markup to the correct syntax.
glisslinescript = \markup{
\\embeddedps{ 0.2 setlinewidth 1 6 moveto 3 -8 lineto stroke}
\halign #1 { \italic gliss. } }
Also, to use these definitions, you have to specify to LilyPond if you
want the markup above the note:

We use Lilypond to typeset my wife's choral arrangements and also lead
sheets for her jazz compositions. The quality of the typeset music is
first rate. For what it's worth, my wife went from knowing nothing
about computers to learning Lilypond, a text editor and finding her way

It seems that the lily-wins script calls lilypond with the additional
flag -p for historical reasons and that the meaning of this flag has
changed from version 2.2 to version 2.4. To avoid these preview files,
you could edit the line in lily-wins that says:
stat = system ('%s -p %s %s.log 21' %
Just uploaded a new slyce. It's a bit more fault tolerant
than the version of a few days ago. Slyce could be helpful
in producing the lilypond-docs, just for example. daveA

Just try to rerun setup.exe once again and try some other mirror site.
Normally, they should all give the same result, but you may have been
unlucky to choose a site that was just updating.

For myself, composing mainly; also, some arranging. For a couple of
colleagues, typesetting pieces for which they have only handwritten
originals - some of it much too hard on the eyes!

I'm using Lily for retyping from older scores or handwritings. Mostly, I
only arrange stuff for my choir, but I also compose scores on my own (in
NoteEdit usually) and use LilyPond for printing them out then.
