Please include some example illustrating the problem. The exact distances will depend on a number of different factors, such as how tightly spaced the score line is. Note also that there are parameters to tweak the distance from the bar line, if you really want to change the defaults. /Mats E

Always use R1 instead of r1 for full measure rests. The solution you have done is more or less what I would use as well, but I would use \mark \markup{ ... } before the first note instead. Then it will be printed on top of the score line and aligned before the first note, as you wish. If you w
