I never thought much about how music used to be engraved, but when I
did there were always more questions than answers.

Mr. Morley:
Thank you for your response and the two suggestions. I shall "play" with
both of them.
You have assisted my learning.

The hand engraving was amazing. It makes you wonder what sort of metal
exactly the plates are. I liked the "I don't make mistakes" quote.
Is it possible that program was an in house adaptation of Music Tex or
one of the others?

No it doesn’t ;-)
I know it's _not_ Lilypond, but it does appear to share some similarities.
It’s SCORE, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCORE_(software)
Doesn't look like SCORE markup to me:

I assumed SCORE, too, but this would imply Sibelius if that was Henle we were
looking at in the second video:
http://www.sibeliusblog.com/meta/henles-music-engraving-video/
Also, Sibelius keyboard input does bear a number of similarities with LilyPond
input syntax.

Hello:
For what term/command in the online manual do I search for instructions as
to orientating an ornament, e.g., mordent, to the left of a middle pitch of
a chord, e.g., to the left of the "c" in < g c e >?
Thank you .

Does anyone know anything about the computer engraving software shown in this
second video? I don't recognize it, but it's striking how similar it looks to
Lilypond.

I have a score with about 50 \acciaccaturas that take too much space
in the source code compared to the surrounding music. Is there a way
to define an alias to be able to use a shorter name?
Please do not hesitate to point me to the documentation if it is
covered somewhere.

Each time I show that movie to my students, their respect for the printed
scores grows :-)
I have a original plate (from Henle), and showing the plate and the movie
together is a fantastic way to make people realize the amazing work behind
the printed score.

Wonderful video, very useful for lilypond translators.
It was posted in this list some time ago, from Werner IIRC
