I'm trying to shift a note horizontally to accomodate ugly spacing
(attachment 1).
It seems overriding force-hshift does only work for polyphonic
constellations so it doesn't make any effect here.
Next thing I tried is to manually shift everything by overriding
extra-offset. This worke

I have a case (attached) where LilyPond doesn't leave enough space for
an accidental.
This minimal example *almost* reproduces it. There's not an actual
collision here, but the space is uncomfortably small. If anything
forces narrower spacing (as in my full piece), they will crash into
each other.

I tried some of the more simple tweaks, but they didn't seem to give me what
you wanted. However, here's a *slightly* more advanced tweak that I got to
work:
