Slur position accounts for omitted stem

In the following snippet I've got two slurred notes that are fairly far apart. This leads to one having a natural stem up and the other down. Naturally, when those stems are present, LilyPond should move the slur so that it doesn't collide with the stems, as is shown in the first Staff.

I've included the files as instructed and it seems to be working fine when applied to the first case. I did need to tweak LyricExtender.minimum-length, as I wanted them to show up more often than they were, but a simple override in my score fixed that nicely (I assume that I'll need to keep
