I just discovered the example called staff-container.ly in the
Tips and Tricks document, that might provide a solution to this
problem. I haven't tried to work out the details, though.

In that case, use Solution 2 in the example and just move the
ossia Staff before the main Staff in the \score{...}.
Remember that contexts are ordered vertically in the order they
first appear in the \score{.

But that way my ossia Staff will not be instantiated at the place I want it.
