u know for a fact that insmod.statis was compiled with -static?
I was under the impression that strip does a good job even when using
-static. Apparently, it doesn't. I'll think about it, and if anyone
knows how to get the binary's size down after strip is done with it,
do tell.

Actually, the problem of compiling modules "out of tree" is an acute
problem, and it's usually broken in one or another way. Kernel hackers
prefer for kernel source to be shipped with the kernel (or as a patch
to the kernel source), and every module which doesn't is automatic

Shachar's lecture of yesterday was very interesting. One thing that I
wish we had time to get into in sufficient details is the design,
deployment, detection and analysis of Linux rootkits. Anyone wants to
pick up the glove and prepare a lecture on the subject?

P kernel crashes during boot with 2.4.18 and 2.4.19 were solved
by passing 'noapic' to the kernel during boot. 'single' and
'init=/bin/sh' are very useful as well.
