Hello LT,

I am writing to share this exciting news. If you have questions, please
reply directly to me or the email at the bottom of the release, and I will
do my best to consolidate and reply back to all.

Many thanks,

Committee

Advisory Shoulders are coming to Farrar Road!

Advisory shoulders—an application of paint on roadway edges that creates
visually distinct spaces for walkers, bikers, and runners—have been proven
to reduce vehicle speed, lower stress for those on foot or bike, and
increase safety for all road users. A recent study showed that advisory
shoulders reduce vehicular crashes by 40%.

Advisory shoulders have been implemented in cities and towns across the
nation, and in Canada <https://youtu.be/0zdDIvKXMxY>.

Starting in April 2022, Lincoln will pilot advisory shoulders on Farrar Road
for one year with a design

that has been approved by the Federal Highway Administration. A crosswalk
to the Rt 126 roadside path will be installed at a later date.

BPAC members will reach out in August to collect feedback on the Farrar
Road treatment from all roadway users.

For those unfamiliar with advisory shoulders, please consult this guide

for walkers, bikers, and drivers navigating Farrar Road.

The pilot is a collaboration of Lincoln’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory
Committee, Roadway & Traffic Committee, Department of Public Works, Police
Department, Select Board, and the Federal Highway Administration.
