I am sorry but it seems you're right. It was a teacher who told me 
that years ago and I've just taken it for granted since. I've never 
noticed any problem when mixing stereo & mono either, but I always 
put stereo sounds in odd channels, ecpecting them to occupy the next 
even channel too. but I can't find anything confirming this in the 
online help, so I guess I was wrong.
