Hi Michael, I believe it says in the documentation of the "@" that : "Be sure to use only the @ symbol when navigating between Director movies or changing the source of a linked media cast member. The @ symbol does not work when the FileIO Xtra or other functions are used outside those available within Director." So, no I don't think you can use it with Filextra.
