Google tells me that you need a BIOS upgrade. Something about USB emulation that prevents certain kinds of BIOS services from working. I would have thought that grub would be the one doing all the disk IO for memtest, and that memtest would not actually talk to the disk. If that is true then it'

I've an Asus laptop, but likely different from yours. I just tried the Crunchbang live (mine is on USB) and went to memtest and it fires right away. I wanted to see the presentation, as I believe most of these are essentially the same code. Do you have a different liveCD/liveDVD/liveUSB to try?

just picked up a new ASUS laptop and first thing i tried was to just boot from a ubuntu 11.04 dvd and do a memory test. but the memory test didn't do anything -- the memtest+ screen came up, but no testing, it just sat there. when i rebooted, it booted into ubuntu just fine so that's not a p
