last night, i threw caution to the winds and just ran a "dist-upgrade" on my ubuntu 12.04 system to bring it up to 12.10. and, amazingly, it seemed to work fine. so i figured i could do it all over again, and go from 12.10 to 13.04 and, based on what i read, that would involve running simply:
