Microsoft Buys a Per unit licence for DVD playback, so they have a CODEC that is licenced and paid by the copy based on the sales of Windows. Linux can't follow this path as the DVD-CCA folks want the CODEC and the CSS decription Keys writen is dense Object code only to grant a licence, while Linux is of Course Open source so the plain source code which shows the tricks.
