I promised an update on the discussions with IBM's software group wrt to
getting their middleware officially OKed for use on Debian for 390.
At this point, the discussions have not moved very far. After several
meetings, the IBM position is that they do not see a business case for

Mark,
The link to the unabridged version of SG24-4987-00 on
http://spazioweb.inwind.it/bunga/linux390/books/sg244987.pdf gets what I
think is the equivalent of a 404 error. But I cannot really read Italian.

This is true. Unfortunately I was unable to find the info outside of
the passworded are of Cisco.com. If someone is interested in specific
parts of the CIP FAQ, please let me know.

John,
I just clicked on the link, and got the book. This sounds familiar. The
same sort of problem cropped up when the book was originally hosted there.
No cause or resolution was ever found, and the problem just seemed to go
away.
You might try a different browser to see if that helps. Sorry
Maybe they have some kind of 'HTTP_REFERER' magic going on. Clicking on
the link from linuxvm.org fails, but after putting the copied address
into the location bar, it worked fine. Doesn't explain why the link
works for Mark though :\. Even after accessing the page directly, going

Interesting. I hand typed the URL in and it worked for me too! Thanks for

Scott - no problem in posting. That's why I put it up on linuxvm.org (no

I have a native LPAR running Redhat and my sysprog has setup a shared ESCON
channel to have access this lpar also. What should I need to do to make this
new channel show up in /proc/chandev and/or /proc/subchannels?
This new channel will be used to connect to a CIP router via the CLAW
protocol,
DEB (Legatus Tux) will remember this ...
In a previous lifetime, I learned the value of I18N.
The good doctor had our student employees coding up 'XMITMSG'
in REXX EXECs on the CMS systems. I hated it! Oh the pain,
oh the convoluted work, just to effect an echo. [sigh]
But I learned.
Jere,
Either configure the CHPID online to the LPAR from the service console, or
power-on-reset the whole box. Then, in either case, re-IPL your Linux/390
system.

Hum, anybody know how the OS/390 CONFIG command works? It would be nice to
have that type of command available in Linux/390. Of course, IBM really
wants you to run Linux/390 under z/VM, not in an LPAR.
