Ok, this is going to require some level of bash expertise, just to warn
everyone. I have a script that writes data to a file. One version of it
works, the other does not. By "works," I mean that a symbolic substitution
is performed. In detail, if I do this:
#!/bin/sh

Hello from Gregg C Levine
No I haven't. That's because I just got back from vacation. However,
Gerard, I can tell you that the good people at Dell, have started
offering enterprise grade Linux solutions that look better then
anything except for a mainframe based one. That's just my working
opinion.
For one OpenOffice developer's opinion, take a look at
http://porting.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgNo=11747. Not
very flattering to Apple, to say the least, and coming from a Mac bigot as
well.

It's possible that part of the linux-2.4.7-s390-11.diff didn't go on
properly. In your list of patches, I don't see
linux-2.4.7-s390.diff
linux-2.4.7-s390-1.diff
linux-2.4.7-s390-2.diff
Did you put them on, and just not list them? Look at include/linux/fs.h,
and make sure that you see this, star

I had a lot of success defining the entire disk as swap device (e.g.

Bernie,
Either sed, or ed work just fine on a 3270. If Perl is available, you can
use that, but it's very unlikely to be available at this point in the boot.
(If your network connection isn't working, but the rest of the system is up,
then Perl becomes an option.) In a similar manner, UTS Global

I've made 'ed' my friend for just such an emergency...

Mark, what's the best method for "editing" if maintenance mode is
invoked and your only console is a VM 3270 console that don't like "vi"
? Solution(s)??
Thanks, Bennie

I don't think using a journaling filesystem would cure this problem. A bad magic

I don't remember how to do this.
Since the system hung I suspect some kind of memory corruption caused the kernel to

While you're in "maintenance mode" you should be able to modify /etc/fstab
to remove the entry for the volume that is failing. That will allow you to
get your system up the rest of the way and have your normal set of tools
available to look at/fix the problem.

I've yet to hear from anyone using this product, and haven't had a chance to

Hi,
I was installing an Oracle DB, and the system hung during one of the last
steps, "clone database creation in progress". The system would no longer
respond, so I had to force the linux image. Now the system will not
restart due to a bad magic number on one of the logical volume packs. I
