Not directly Linux- or 390-related, but really cool.

All,
I'm trying to compile a CVS snapshot of glibc 2.3.3 (now that the glibc
developers are no longer putting out actual releases). Apparently it
compiled fine on Intel, but when I try to compile it on Linux/390, I get a
error in dl-runtime.c. It looks as though sysdep.h is not being included

SuSE SLES-9 natively supports installing onto FCP disk.
The redbook you mentioned actually describes how to work around the SLES-8
install and get YaST to install directly onto an FCP disk. It's a hack,
but it works.
The same approach might also work for RHEL-3 U3 if they have included the

interested.

That would be something that needs support in the installer. I don't know
if either Red Hat or SUSE have that support in their Linux/390 installers.
I believe they do not, but would welcome corrections.

When you order VM, go ahead and get 5.1 so that you're set for a while.
The page/spool are no longer on the res pack with it so you don't have
to worry about that.
Don't let your storage hw folks stick you on escon if you can help it.
FICON is the way to go.

I have read how to "copy" an existing Linux image to an FCP attached
SCSI drive, then IPling it. This is well documented in Redbook
sg246344. I didn't read anything that explains how (or if you can)
install a fresh image onto an FCP drive.
Any thoughts?

Given the huge hassle involved with getting a non-alt Usenet group set up, I
would have to say "no." I'll be archiving the announcements on the
slack390.org web site, and Google has been through there almost from day
one.
Any announcement mailing list I set up will be one-way only, just the way

I am not sure whether the support for selecting from multiple kernels

I'll put in a shameless plug for some stuff I've worked on. The Domino
redbook has some (hopefully useful and relatively recent) infrastructure
documentation in chapters 3-6:

I like sounds of the new vmconvert command that converts a VMDUMP to lkcd format so
that it can be analyzed by the linux dump tools.

I do not think there is anything in htdig that requires Acrobat reader, yes
you need a PDF viewer, but GhostView or Xpdf will do the job quite happily,
and are sure to be available (or at least portable) as they are open source
where acrobat is not.
