Rick,
perhaps your lvm.conf file needs a tweak to see the multipath lun
device?

mylun is not defined in /etc/multipath.conf.
I'll check those RPMs.
Kernel is 2.6.5-7.276-s390x.

RHEL 5 is GA, but due to a nasty bug (see my post on 4/19) we're
recreating the ISO images with a newer kernel. They should be available
on RHN shortly (I'll shoot out a note when they're available).

Bingo!
That got us past the current hurdle.
In particular, from that web page, this statement in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf
helps:
types = [ device-mapper, 1 ]
We will probably still have issues with boot.multipath and multipathd.

The nsswtich.conf file is using default values and I've never tried to do
anything with nis. My understanding of the situation is that the pam modules
are making an ldap call, through local ldap services, which was configured to
go against the dns resolvable name for the z/OS system where we run

Do you have your filters appropriately configured in lvm.conf so that
it can see /dev/mapper/* devices?
Adam
Tried numerous times to define a filter for /dev/mapper pseudo devices. No
joy. I did eventually need to filter out /dev/sdx., but filtering in
/dev/mapper did not help by itself.
The line I found in the HTML John pointed out resolved the current pain:
types = [ device-mapper, 1 ]

I was installing SLES10x and everything seemed to be OK. It installed all
the software and there was some screen with check marking going on. I

I ended up shutting down the z/VM Guest and rebooting and it started where
it left off. It continued to reboot several times without any indication
that it was going to reboot. Quite confusing but in the end, it is
installed and running. I have some other problems now that I must work
through.
Hey Mark, is there a similar link to where the ISO's for SP3 SLES9x
might be (need to get them again)? I'd rather not pull them to my PC
and the send them back up to Linux.

Thanks! That's working!
PS. Did I tell you I'm really glad you went to go work for Novell :)?

I have the following installed on a newly installed sles10x:
cpint-kmp-default-2.5.3_2.6.16.21_0.8-3.2
cpint-2.5.3-3.2
However, when I issue any HCP command, I get the following:
linuxm01:/var/log/YaST2 # hcp q stor
Open: No such file or directory
Even when I run:
linuxm01:/etc/init.d #
'modprobe cpint' and try it again.
our SLES10 test image is doing the same thing; our resident Linux
white-hat gave me a couple clues on what to check to find out WHY. I'll
report back with my discovery unless somebody else pipes up with the
answer, first.

If the cpint kernel module wasn't built for the specific kernel
version that SLES 10 is running the module won't load and you'll get
an error like that.
Do you have to use cpint specifically, or would the new vmcp tool
module be an option? It should be available by default with SLES 10:
The behaviour of 'vmcp' is a little different.
May not matter. To some it does. Consistency is a nice thing.
I wrote an hcp.rx Regina script which loads an rxdiagrc.so
module to drive either interface. Does not perform the loading of
the kernel module but issues CP commands with either
