What backup software you use for zOS backups? What we are currently doing is
running weekly backups of Linux DASD from zOS using FDR. This works fine but
you don't have the capability of doing file level restores, just the whole DASD.
Recently we defined a new virtual guest that is acting as an

We use Oracle RMAN/FDR Upstream and FULL FDR Dumps weekly.
We also perform a daily incremental.

Do it now, on all
I have successfully backed up and restored volumes containing z/Linux
data using z/OS and DFDSS. And example step would look something like:
//BACKUP EXEC PGM=ADRDSSU,
// TIME=NOLIMIT,REGION=2048K
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//DASD1DD DISP=OLD,
// UNIT=SYSALLDA,
//
I know its disconcerting, but this zLinux is only being used as a basis to
start of a POC idea.
Ill look into both DDR and TSM then :)

A bit disconcerting that a backup was taken but the restore process isn't
known.
At the simplest level, you can DDR the DASD for VM/Linux to tape or DASD..
then use DDR to restore it. For Linux - the guest should be logged off if
you want to ensure the backup will result in a working system when

Hi all... For those of you running Oracle databases under Linux on z,
how are you doing your database backups? Especially for databases on
the SAN.
Anyone have a better choice than full exports, then backing up that flat
file?
Thanks

Interesting. If it implemented tftp, it'd be pretty much what would be
needed.

We have installed a single zLinux VM on our s390 here.
I want to take a backup of this system in case something drastic happens (ie
the developers/testers break it).
The zOS sys admin has informed me he has taken a copy of the system. However as
he is also new to zVM, he is unsure of the restor
Peter,
I hope the zipl command will also be enhanced to work with a multipathed
LUN ala the multipath-tools package.
Or by making it support LVM (which relies on device mapper) will it
automatically support multipathed LUN since multipath-tools also relies
on device mapper?

Mark,
Is this command something that I should run at the DR site. Or is it
something I should just up and do on all
the Linux guests I have here.
Thanks,
Ron
