Yes, we are running z/VM version 5.3. I think we have all the required
maintenance to run OSA-EXPRESS3 for z/VM 5.3 applied all.
The following PTF are currently applied : UK37960, UK41398, UM32407, UM32565,
UM32615, UM32140, UM32223, UM32239, UM32210, UM32497, UM32482

Hi,
I've searched around and drawn a blank. What I'm wondering is whether there is
a method in Linux that emulates a z/OS DDNAME's facility of allowing multiple
datasets to be concatenated and effectively treated as one file.
I looked at symbolic links, the "cat" command, variants of the "mount
Looks like you are z/VM 5.3?
If so, did you install the required maintenance to support Express3 cards?

It looks like I either used the wrong IP address for the DNS server when
I was installing our RedHat test system, or there's a typo. In any case,
DNS lookup isn't working. I can ping an IP address, and it works like it
should, but when I try to ping a name, the ping fails. If this were a

Hello all,
We recently moved our working z/VM Linux LPAR from z9 to z10. After the move
our Linux guest systems are unable to use a layer 2 VSWITCH device. Our Linux
guest has 2 layer2 NIC interface eth0 and eth1 defined. NIC eth0 is used for IP
and NIC eth1 only does LLC over Ethernet (no IP)

I don't know it to be a secret, but I haven't had time to collect it. The one
thing I know for sure was already mentioned: the IUCV-based terminal server in
s390
Any new function you can tell us about? Or is that a secret until 10/12?

All,
The currently planned "First Customer Shipment" date for SUSE Linux Enterprise
10 Service Pack 3 is October 12th, 2009. As usual, this will be for all
architectures. So, a nice little welcome home present for everyone that's
fortunate enough to be going to IBM's System z Expo. :)

But ... just to be clear, Mike ... there are two "console server"
concepts in this thread. What has been discussed is LOG servers and
collection of virtual console traffic, and then also CONTROL servers
(terminal servers) where you get a command shell without the 3215
pain.
Regarding log servers,
Hi list,
Thanks for all the replies ...
I had forgotten about the terminal server paper. That looks like a good
approach as it is Linux-centric (not that the z/VM-centric solutions
aren't good too). It's also good to hear that the next SLES release will
be picking that up from s390 tools. I'm g

Our Unix people are used to using parted for preparing san dasd to be
used, including creating lvm volumes. In the past, I used fdisk, setup the
multipathing, then added the mpio device to lvm, I never using parted. Can
parted be used for san dasd in the z environment? pros or cons, gotta's?
Thanks

Or use an ssh client with X11 forwarding turned on. The combination of
putty and xming works well on windows, or (with a bit more fiddling)
cygwin ssh client and cygwin X11.

The mechanism of calling virtual functions changed such that if the table is
too large it will not call the correct function. Mono expects the
architecture to have implemented "IMT". If it doesn't then in certain
circumstances if the vtable is too large then a correct call cannot be made.

Yes. You only need the libraries, so don't install a full KDE/Gnome, but you
do need some X.
