APAR VM64862 has been found to be in error. Installing this APAR may
result in ABENDHRM00
i think so.. if your list of devices is short or not get the new dasd
(vdisk)..
And i suppouse u get it on DIAGNOSE mode.. so it is little more efficient
than FBA

Have you configured modprobe.conf or dasd.conf (RHEL) for get always
activated this virtual device, in exeample 16A or similar..
(u probably need make new initrd for get it up after new reboots.

Just added vdisk to 11 zlinux boxes on zvm 6 for swap. Did this dynamically and
it worked perfectly BUT I am losing it on reboot...
Does it need to be defined in zipl.conf? it is in fstab.

More generally - the SCSI attached tape requirement is a "SCSI
attached tape LIBRARY requirement".
If you want to talk to stand alone tape drives, either SCSI or FICON
attached drives work just fine. If you want to send commands directly
to the robot that loads the drives, it has to be SCSI. Linux
