Hm. Inserting the vlan= came from following the RedHat kernel parms; turns out,
taking out the vlan= made no difference.
I then took out the init=/initrd and the ipv6.disable=1 and the installer
ground into life. (Think: Gene Wilder)

Why do you have

?
In the configuration I described, the guest is VLAN unaware.
