Ok, I think we are on the same page. Linux using VM minidisks, and a track by track back using dfdss from z/OS. Your dfdss job is expecting a CP volume, but you probably did not format the disk before using it. Which is ok for the Linux minidisk, it does it's own formatting, but it is not

I used ICKDSF command as follows: CPVOL FORMAT UNIT(5355) VFY(VMF108) RANGE(0,0) Works from ICKDSF on either z/OS or z/VM. After you do this, make sure your dfdss backup jobs include the CPVOLUME parm, as follows: DUMP TRACKS(0,0,32759) - INDD(VMVOL1) CPVOLUME ADMIN -
