I think the chandev.conf file was used in older version of SuSE (maybe 7
or 8). But went away with later versions.

I am having a problem with cloning zLinux systems ( use DirMaint clonedisk
command to create the 201 disk for our cloned zlinux guests)
This is a SuSE10 sp2 system we run the cloning process from
My process will create a single clone without problem.
vmcp link userid 201 20f mr
chccwdev -e 20f
will likely destroy the disk.
Link it RR instead.

So - does that file exist?(the config for the 4220) ..if not, why
not?Need more info about your clones..
Also - are you sure it's /dev/dasdc1 ? Did you do an lsdasd to confirm?

Does anyone have any documentation on how to migrate from SP2 to SP3. This

The approach we have taken is to give the machine duplicate mdisk 150-155

I am trying to connect to VNC from a web browser.Everything I read
says VNC has a built in mini-http server that allows it using the
following format:
http://servername:580x(where x is the vnc port that is started).
Has anyone tried this and gotten it to work.

I have found that z/VM Backup and Restore Manger application is a great
tool for creating image backups of our zLinux and system dasd. We keep
one set of tapes on site and keep the offsite set of tapes at a remote
location.
We supplement these image backups with Tivoli Storage Manager Clients

To solve your problem you need to review the CP XAUTOLOG command and place
the IPL xxx in the profile exec for your linux guest.

You might want to take a look at your Query SRM command. Check and see
if your LDUBUF and STORBUF have settings below 100%. If you are still
using the defaults it can lock Q3 users out from doing any work.

here is what I use for a linux system
LDUBUF : Q1=200% Q2=200% Q3=200%
STORBUF: Q1=300% Q2=200% Q3=200%
It is probably your LDUBUF for Q3 users that is causing it.Change that
one 1st and see how it does.

You might want to take a look at the RPL tool (
http://www.laffeycomputer.com/index.html) it is freeware and does a good
job of searching for a string of data and doing the change. This can run
from the 3270 console at the disaster recovery and test sites.

An easy solution is from the guest virtual machine link to the disk where
the file is located at first level (the 5.2.0 level), then attach that
disk to a virtual machine at 2nd level (5.3.0 level) access the disk and
then copy the files.
I think this use to be documented in the old migration
I found a module from LaffyComputers.com a couple of years ago. It is
freeware and is call rpl. you pass it the parameter you want it to find
and then there are options to autochange everything or selectively change,
it also has an option to recursively parameter to search sub-directories.
My guess is that you have not gone into YAST and activated them if it
SuSE.

Bennie, I believe you have the have the storage subsystem feature before
the VM flashcopy command will work. I know that when you have DirMaint
and you set it up to use flashcopy it will revert back to DDR unless you
are on DASD subsystems that support Flashcopy.

If you use the directory entry NICDEF, it will do the define and the

A good guess is that you did not grant your linux guest access to the
vswitch.
CP SET VSWITCH GRANT virtual_machine_name (optionally VLAN ###)
This can also be added to the SYSTEM CONFIG file as a MODIFY VSWITCH
statement

I am not running on a DS8100, but taught it since it came out. So this
is a guess.
Since the Global mirror function is within the DS8100 and it is at a LUN
level, it should work just like it does in a native open system
environment. You should be able to script this with the DS8000 Command
In my opinion you are much better off using VSWITCH's. It is one layer
less in the path length and you don't have to have a host to perform
routing. The vswitch also supports layer 2 routing rather than layer 3
(more efficient).
