Dan,
I gave up on FEDORA17 and gave FEDORA18 a try... Much nicer interface!
I finally got F18 to install but had the following problems.
My installation choices required 1.15G DASD I dedicated a 3390-3 disk
(about 2.4G) but the installer said it wasn't enough, the old filesystem
had to be removed.

Could be you've already checked - but you may need to specify the directory
of the command.. (/bin/tar) since you may not have any path set at the
point you're at?

What a bummer, 'tar' doesn't seem to be in the 'BASIC' installed package.

And install it, and not make a mistake that wipes out your source and
make sure you exclude the path where you mount the target. Been
there... ;-)You can do the same with "tar" and it has a
Thanks Rick. now I just need to learn about rsync.

At this point, you can replicate from VDISK to ECKD. 'rsync' makes this
relatively easy. There are a few things to look out for and some fix-up
once copied.

Success !! Sort of.
I tried many many different things i.e. using different DASD 3390 mod 3 and
mod 9 and different install options etc. so finally I tried FBA .. I don't
have any FBA DASD so I defined a 2G V-DISK and the install worked. Now I am

LXFMT works on both ECKD and emulated 9336es. It does not work on pure FCP.
I'll get that page fixed.

Tom,
Wait, on ww.sinenomine.net/products/vm/lxfmt I see:
This package contains a CMS utility to format and/or partition FBA disks
for Linux use.
Are these SCSI/FBA or ECKD disks?

There's aways the choice to use LXFMT from Sine Nomine Associates:
LXFMT 2.2 - CMS-Based Linux D
I use lxfmt to format the disk before starting the install.. That doesn't
eliminate the error.

Just a shot in the dark: did you try opening a root shell before kicking
off the installer and dasdfmting all disks?
"Mike MacIsaac"
Interesting. I have been trying for 2-3 weeks and still can't get through
the install.
