mysteriously and unexpectedly logged off. Like I said, we're new to all
this and it turns out we were not spooling our VM console log. We are now,
and so are in the "waiting for problem to reoccur" stage. I'll report back

Do you have a console log from the Linux guest? If it is taking an
interrupt that causes it to go to CP READ for a period of time, then
it will be logged off by CP. The console log should indicate this.
You would then need to track down the reason for the guest going into
CP READ.
