DEVNO is the dedicate for when you know the device address and

With dedicated dasd, CCW translation is marginally faster. But if memory
serves, you will lose minidisk cach
I believe that this is also true of minidisks that use the DEVNO rdev

For dedicated volumes z/VM won't have to do relocation of seek/search/define
extent/locate extent cylinder values. Mind you this is not exactly a taxing
task given the typical channel program.

No, no more than on the z9, really. It really doesn't make that much
difference any more.

It (the difference between dedicated and minidisk I/O) is measurable,
but the impact is smaller on the z9 systems due to the increased

That's gone anyway on a z9, right?

Subject: MDISK vs DEDICATED DASD
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone can tell me whether or not there is an advantage or
a reason or a disadvantage to using MDISKs for Linux servers
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone can tell me whether or not there is an advantage or
a reason or a disadvantage to using MDISKs for Linux servers if I intend
to turn off the MDC, verses using dedicated disks. I intend to use the
entire disks and not split them up.
Thanks in advance.
