Yes. Application development and testing, some DB/2 work, Oracle as
several people have mentioned, document conversion (PSF to ),
dataset compression and encryption, archive conversion, Websphere work.
How much more do you want? 8-)

Yes. Yes, people have.
It usually happens for licensing reasons. Either because IFLs are
cheaper than CPs or because Linux licensing, even on Z, follows the
vendor's Open Systems licens
We are currently working on moving our home grown 3270 application from z/OS
to a MFL environment using WAS 6.1, DB2 and a workflow engine from Fujitsu
(Interstage iBPM). It will be a J2EE enabled application. We are also
moving some of our 3270 traffic for mainframe connections to Linux using
