No, they just merged both trees in the kernel since a lot of the code
was common to both "archs". The kernel still returns "s390x" in 64 bit
SP2 is Service Pack 2. There is one for 31-bit (s390)
and another for 64-bit (s390x), It includes a bunch
of fixes and a later kernel. From the SuSE s390 site:
SLES8 31-bit build date was 2002/11/12 for GA
SP231-bit build date was 2003/06/17 for GA
SP331-bit build date was 2003/10/0
isn't this supposed to change with 2.6? ie, there will only be s390 for
both 31 and 64 bit?

uname -m will return s390 or s390x

Okay, let me please carry this one further.
Is there a command in either Linux or z/VM
that I can tell what's running? Like 31bit
vs 64.

Hi all,
How does one know when/how 31-bit or 64-bit is selected for the
installation of SuSE SLES8 for S/390 and zSeries? I saw one hit on Google
mentionning the need to IPL SLES8 rather than IPL SLES8X to ensure 31-bit
but that leaves me clueless. Apparently there is only one set of CD media.
