You can do better. The trick is that you need 300 mS between ticks for
z/VM to see you're idle and pack up your things. One might believe
I think that some info needs to be cleared up. sysctl -w kernel.hz_timer=1
will DISABLE the timer patch. sysctl -w kernel.hz_timer=0 will ENABLE the
timer patch. The best way I have found to check this(only when running
under VM) is to use the CP trace facility (tip from the Boeblingen lab).
St

THANX!! Here's what a INDICATE QUEUE EXP shows:

Just as Bill suggested, you are showing the Linux guest in E3 (eligible
queue). You will want to change your SRM STORBUF (and possibly LDUBUF
settings). A performance monitor like ESAMON will be able to assist you in
arriving at correct values for these settings, but just to get you going I'd
sugge

I have 2 gig allocated to the IFL. In my USER DIRECT I have 2 gig
allocated to this image. WCBE requires 1 gig and my e folks stated that 2
would be best.
What are your SRM settings (Q
SRM)?

IABIAS :
You could also try the CP INDICATE QUEUE EXP command. One of the common
gotchas is the formation of an eligible list. The CP command above
will give you something like:
TCPIP Q0 PS 6196/5746 -199.9 A02
BITNERQ1 R00 0819/0795 .I.. -179.9 A02
KREINTA Q3 IO
How big is the machine (real and virtual)? What are your SRM settings (Q
SRM)? What does IND Q show you (and IND Q EXP)?
