Hi Linux390 group. We are running SLES 10 SP1 on a z/9 LPAR (no z/VM yet).
We are now exploring the world of z/Linux with Oracle. To increase performance we would like to assign PAV or two to the z/Linux LPAR. Z/Linux is using 2 ECKD volumes, 382F and 392F. There are 3 MVS LPARS (not SYSPLEXed) running too and they are using WLM to manage the PAVs. The Shark (ESS800) 8-pack(s) strings might be shared amongst LPARS, but only about 3 volumes are really online to multiple LPARS. The 2 z/LINUX volumes are on the end of a ‘string’ that our Production LPAR uses, but I do vary them off at MVS IPL time. We have all of our ALIASes are defined as WLMPAV=YES, WLM manages all of them. Since WLM is manipulating the PAVs dynamically, how to we dedicate a PAV to the z/LINUX LPAR? We can look at the SHARK and find out PAV are assigned to the 2 z/LINUX volumes, but this is a static view and might change at any minute. So since z/LINUX must define the PAVs, how can we make sure that this PAV does not get assigned at anytime to another LPAR?
