Trying to convert degraded raid1 to single...
# mount btrfs0.img /mnt/test -oloop,degraded
# btrfs filesystem balance start -mconvert=single -dconvert=single -f
/mnt/test
...ends up with:

I also uploaded my minimal qemu setup, which I use to experiment with btrfs:
