I do'nt know how but I give you instance a example. I have a new kernel,it is called /home/supreet/vmlinuz. and /vmlinuz is there on my menu. I want to boot with /home/supreet/vmlinuz. Just type c giving you command-line. do root=(hdx,y) x being disk id from 0 and y being partition. then kernel

>From my experience I think never use disk at all. FOr time being use tomsrtbt. which is mini dist on disk. But better idea is to boot using cdrom and give argument linux root=/dev/hdx# hdx# being your root partition. then restart lilo. Better yet move on Lilo sucks for any power user try GRUB
