Attempting to shut the system down (e.g. 'poweroff') does everything,
including turning the light on the front system off, but never quite
fully powers the machine off. I have to hold the power button down for
about 5 seconds to actually properly turn it off.

Surely this can't be too much to ask? I'm looking for a DVB-T USB
stick which I can buy now and is solidly supported, that's all.
Previously i've picked up a couple of MSI Digivox II sticks that when
delivered turned out to be unsupported MSI Digivox II V2.0 sticks, so
it's no longer safe to order

I've recently bought a couple of MSI Mega Sky 580s (identified as MSI
Mega Sky 55801) but I can't get them to scan or tune.
I've pulled the latest version of the v4l-dvb repository, compiled and
installed without any problems. On plugging the stick in I get the
following (promising) dmesg output:

If any of the devs are interested in adding support for this device
i'll happily provide the hardware.
On the other hand if support is unlikely or far off then i'll return
the devices and try elsewhere.

On a cold boot everything appears to work fine, device is registered, everything is
detected correctly, firmware loads etc, I can then tune the card using tzap, this also
works fine.
The problem manifests itself when I try to actually receive any data from the card
using dvbtraffic / dvbdate /
