Somewhere in software.log it should say something like
Setting up postgresql-7.4 ...
Does that show up in your logs? If it does, is it followed by any errors? Please
post the relevant part

and reinstall with aptitude in chroot /tmp/target all working fine, only

Is this normal Alpha architecture? IMO it should be possible. You only
have to write a hook for the partitioning, but
