it seems the bug reported by Darshaka Pathirana (third issue in
http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-fai@uni-koeln.de/msg03513.html) has not been
fixed in 3.4.5. My system fails with the same error. Here the last lines from
fai.log:

Hello, what is the difference between a chroot created with debootstrap and
installing a chroot by running
'fai -N -v -u $hostname dirinstall -$TARGET'

It seems to wait for the NIC to become ready (link established) forever. No
DHCP, no NFS mount so far. And no busybox because the system seems to be
stuck
in an endless loop :-(
