Hello everybody,
bringing debian-lan up-to-date for stretch, I run into a bug/problem.
A dirinstall with the command:
fai -vNu diskless dirinstall $DLROOT
ends up using not the class 'diskless' but the hostname of the
faiserver, in my case 'mainserver':
root@mainserver:~# cat /var/log/fa
Hi,
I created a FAI-CD with fai-cd in jessie, however, booting the CD
fails with GRUB complaining:
error: file '/boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found.
Entering rescue mode ...
and I end up at the GRUB rescue prompt.
Anybody seeing the same issue, or anybody where fai-cd works as
considering,

Hello,
today I gave the jessie packages in Debian and fai-cd a try. I had to
apply a few fixes to make it work for me: Use the jessie repository
for the nfsroot, and some file locations seem to have changed with
recent grub.
See attached patch.
Best regards,

Hi Nico,
I am not sure if I do not get your message right, or if you did not
have a look at Debian-LAN and the links I provided at all. ;-)

Hi all,
I would like to point your attention to the Debian-LAN project [1].
Debian-LAN is an approach to simplify installing a complete kerberized
network environment made of Debian machines. It might be used for
schools, small enterprises, associations, (university) work groups or
to install co

Hi all,
I've figured out a way to convert an existing minimal Debian
installation with FAI. It seems to work pretty well for Debian-LAN,
and I would like to share/discuss the approach. It uses "fai -vN
softupdate" for the conversion. The necessary steps are:
* install the base system, ho

Perhaps this is of some help:
Hi,
from time to time it's necessary to distribute data securely to
clients from the FAI server. This has been discussed before on this
list, c.f. for example [1] and replies.
I would like to present and 'ask for comments' on a way I figured out
last week. Perhaps it is well known, but I did not
Hi all,
the past days I have spent making DebianLAN [1] work on wheezy
out-of-the-box. It is my pleasure to report:
DebianLAN is _almost_ ready for wheezy!
First, thanks to everybody who made this possible. There are two
issues for which I do not know a simple workaround [2]:

Hi,
I digged a bit more into this issue. Checking the history of the live-boot
package, I found that the last version that worked for me was 3.0~a25-1.
I fetched the packages from snapshots.debian.org and installed them in the
chroot and prepared the fai-cd as usual [1]. This CD does not fail
Hi,
I am trying to build a CD image for FAI. The image uses live-boot.
After booting the kernel, I end on the initramfs command line.
The last messages of interest are:

and:

Hi everybody!
In my setup I would like to copy an indiviual kerberos keytab to the

keytab is needed to mount the kerberized home directories. For
security reasons, I do not want to keep all the keytabs in the
nfsroot and pick t

Hello everybody,
after having managed to implement diskless clients (with great help
from this list, thanks!), I thought how to update the chroot in a
nice way. Of course it would be prefered to do it in a way easy to
remember for the sysadmin, comparable to 'fai softupdate' like it's

Hi all,
today I tried to implement diskless clients in a FAI config space for
Debian-LAN (http://wiki.debian.org/DebianLAN>).
After experimenting a bit with the ltsp-server package I, decided to
try creating the chroot using FAI. I managed to boot the diskless
client, but due to the nature of
