Hi,
I searched the wiki but couldn't find any references to Linux Mint.
Has anyone used FAI to install mint?
In that case, is it just like Ubuntu for the main edition, and like
Debian sid for LMDE, or does something have to be done differently?

Great news!
Will the packages make it into the Ubuntu repository? If so, when?
Does it require a Ubuntu nfsroot, or will it work as well with a Debian
nfsroot + Ubuntu basefile?
I'm currently installing jaunty from a lenny server wit

Softupdate would do for me. You can always install the base in some
other way (Debian FAI server, clonezilla, g4l, ...) and then use
softupdate to get things exactly

Interesting. That would be exactly what we would need to be able to stay
with Debian o

Hi,
I haven't been able to reach the fai web pages or the wiki this week. i
have tried from two different locations, but no web servers in the
informatik.uni-koeln.de domain seem to be reachable.

Thanks for the GPG signature. Unfortunately somthing is missing:
$ grep fai /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://www.informatik.uni-koeln.de/fai/download etch koeln
$ apt-key list|tail -5

Why isn't the fai repository gpg signed?
It would be nice to be able to use the latest and greatest fai version
without having to decrease security.
But if I don't add apt settings (like /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/10fai in the
nfsroot), all package upgrades will fail when running a softupdate.
So
I have a few computers using raid1, and in 2.10 I used the tricks at
http://faiwiki.informatik.uni-koeln.de/index.php/User:Svamberg/Software_RAID.
In addition to this, I had to run mkinitrd and create mdadm.conf in a
script.
Since sarge there has been some changes in software raid, making

Not needed, but conveniant since make-fai-bootfloppy doesn't add
the nfsroot parameter by default.

With softupdates you don't use a server - except one to hold the configuration
files.
But the configuration from

I'm not sure, but I guess it should work.
Ok, I'll give it a try an report
Two questions:
Will softupdate work if a use fai-client 3.2 against a 3.1.8 server?
What happens to the small boot cd (make-fai-bootfloppy -B -i ...). Is
that option still available now that fai uses initramfs?
(I use that method for older PXE bios versions that don't honour
next-server.)

Using fai-kernels 1.17+etch2 the installation hangs at random points
during the installation. Sometimes it hangs during boot, typically at
"Waiting for /dev to be populated". Other times it hangs during package
transfer och some other point. As far as I can see, it looks totally
random, and hap

We have our own repository for local packages. It is gpg signed with our
own key, and the key is present in /etc/apt/trusted.gpg in the nfsroot,
which is copied to the installed client (verified with "apt-key list").
This works fine on the initial installation, but when I add more
packages and

When running a softupdate, two variables must be added to fai.conf:
monserver for faimond, and LOGSERVER to copy the logs to the server.
It would be nice if these variables were added to the default
fai.conf so it is obvious that they have to be defined.
Even better would be if they weren't ne
Is it possible to use $ROOTCMD in cfengine scripts?
I update a configuration file for tex-common, and want to run
update-texmf after that. It must work both for install and softupdate.
This is what I tried with in my script:
shellcommands:
any::
${ROOTCMD} /usr/sbin/update-texmf
