Thomas Lange and I did some work together on improving the FAI Ubuntu
package so that it worked on Ubuntu 9.10.
If I remember it ok we get stuck on the partition creation because a
package (sfdisk maybe?) was not accepting linux-swap instead of swap as
the partition type (or viceveresa).

We (three people) decided to remove the fai packages from Ubuntu 9.10,
since currently there's nobody that has time

It should (and most probably really is) for the softupdate and
dirintalls part - it is not for the network/cd-install part due to
dependecies against special layered

Softupdate would do for me. You can always install the base in some
other way (Debian FAI server, clonezilla, g4l, ...) and then use
softupdate to get things exactly
