I just finished upgrading my Debian to be able to run the last set of
ax25 tools.
Actually the system is based on 2.2.13 custom compiled kernel and glibc
2.1.2 (updated thanks to apt). I have installed the last Debian packages
for ax.25 libraries (including dev), tools and apps.

Any ideas ?
Try to run the client from strace and have a look at the dump, maybe
it can help you:
strace -o outfile '/usr/local/sbin/xfbbC -c'
