I'm trying to follow the links posted on the thread at

a bit off topic, but just saw it and it's great news for desktop linux

I tried to play it in firefox linux gentoo. Doesn't work for me. Someone who
tried with vlc plugin for firefox made it work. I couldn't. However, on
virtual machine with windoes xp, I installed windows media player and I
managed to play it. All I know is that the guy who managed to play with vlc
One thing that comes to mind is to do the following:
boot with a knoppix or other livecd. ntfs will be mounted. Some of the disk
will be readable. In such case you can backup on other disk.
after that boot windows with a recovery disk if you have.

When I was researching a way to view M$ Windows Media Player only cotent - I
came across this plugin:

I tried it with the Mako site, and it worked!
It's a bit of a hustle to configure at first, and it isn't perfect, but it
gets the job done!
