this is WAY OT, but i thought i should share this with this list, because i know there are people here that travel to the united states from time to time, not always for work purposes.
i am STILL in Israel. i was planned to departure more then a month ago, and it seems that leaving the country is NOT as simple as some of you may think. if you plan to go for a little trip, even as a tourist, with the full honest intention to come back after a few weeks, you will actually need to provide solid proofs for your intentions.. that includes : * a letter from your current employer stating that you have a current place of employment in Israel, and that your employer states that you have your job safe and secure until you come back. (letter must state the length of the trip as well.) * pay slips. in many cases, the latest will do. i saw people at the embassy that were asked for 3-6. * a bank statement that proves you can afford your trip and expenses while you are on U.S soil. last week, i've spent almost 4 hours at the embassy waiting for an interview, and almost 30 appliers before me got DECLINED ! most of them, young people that just got out of the army, and wanted to go for a trip, but there were also married couples, a business man (independent) that needed to go on a business trip, and even 2 senior citizens. (what are they gonna do, immigrate??). just though this info might come in handy for some of you, in case you *thought* to take a brake, and go for a trip to the land of (un)limited possibilities. BTW, this is old news, but very much related : http://www.whatsup.org.il/article.php?sid=159 (both applications ended up being approoved.) -- ============================== Tal Amir, Founder, Owner Whatsup, Hebrew Linux Portal.
