I use the exact cable Ira mentioned in his email (not same type, same
cable. The secret is out - I am Ira's flat-mate), and have not seen the
network outage described by Ira. I can think of three possible reasons:
1. I wasn't paying attention.
2. There wa

OK, let me say my experience too, weird but real, some times ago in a
storm, when a lightning hit 100 meters from my home, the computer
hanged, and guess what? the modem was attached to the phone line, but
my sound card went out, no physical signs of toasting ;-).
