well, seems very odd to me. so i checked in my mdk10.1 (synced to cooker) about it. (and OpenOffice.org-1.1.3-2mdk installed) i also don't have a nisdomain defined (so it will be '(none)'). now, i started a sniffer on my ISPs dns' ips. (as defined in /etc/resolv.conf) and started openoffice. i saw no dns query at that time at all. I suggest you try upgrading your openoffice package.
