I'm setting up a copy of RedHat 8.0 on a machine that is intended as a
standalone machine with DSL access to Internet.
I have eth0 up and running, and did the adsl-setup with my usual valid
information. The problem comes trying to make ppp0 active. It tries,
but cycles between active and inactive.
emacs has a very good built in help system that's accessible thru -

"Learning GNU Emacs"... The second edition book is sorta centered around
version 19.30.

I'm trying to set up RedHat 8.0 and ran into some difficulties.
1. I can delete any icon from the desktop except for two. How do I get
rid of trash and home?
2. Although DEL is mapped to "remove," the window manager catches it
and instead pops up a window menu window. How do I kill that

Is there a standard format for adding other linux distro's to
/etc/lilo.conf?
The concept of a "distro" is meaningless to lilo (either the Linux app or
the bootloader itself). lilo knows about kernels, boot devices, root
filesystems, and a few ot

Ken -- You may already have gotten the help you need from John Kelly's
response. The few details I can add may or may not be helpful.
1. You are being assigned a private-range address (10.b.c.d) by your ISP.
This means one of two things:
A. The ISP NAT's these addresses upstream of you.
Looks like that's what I'm looking for. Thanks

I am new to Debian and just installed Debian Woody. What program do I
use to view which programs are available for installation on my 7 cd
installation set with a brief discription of each. My SuSE has Yast2
for this purpose. There must be something similar in Debian.

Dear subscribers.
On my Linux server I try to start the Tomcat server during boot. The
problem is that Tomcat requires the JAVA_HOME environment variable to be
set. I've tried to set this variable in the profile.local file but it
seems like this file isn't evaluated until I log on to the server.
