Gnome and KDE tend to copy Windows in that when you hit Alt+Tab, it should
switch between programs. If that doesn't work you should be able to change
the key combo in the settings options.

that is really the point of a switched network. Switches are supposed to
be smart in that they learn about who is at what port and only repeat
broadcast traffic to everyone.
